2-Day MidRange Crystalline Glaze Workshop

Join me in my home studio in Provo, Utah for a 2-day workshop focused on cone 6 crystalline glazing. We’ll dive into glaze formulation, forms that work best for crystal growth, and fire a kiln together using a controlled ramp and hold schedule.

What to Expect:

  • Small group size so everyone gets time, space, and attention

  • Bring 3–5 bisqued pieces (5"x5" or smaller recommended), cone 08 bisque, made with a smooth, non-groggy clay. I can make some recommendations!

  • All glaze materials, additives, and firing costs are included

  • You’re welcome to bring your own glaze tests or materials to experiment with

Who Can Join:

  • Open to ceramicists 18+ with clay experience

  • Ideal for those wanting to learn about crystalline glaze surfaces and how to fire them successfully at cone 6

  • Student discounts available—just reach out if you’re unsure whether you qualify

Workshop Schedule:

Day 1 – Forms & Formulation:

  • Morning: Discussion of forms that encourage crystal growth

  • Afternoon: Glaze chemistry breakdown and mixing crystalline base glazes

  • Evening: Studio time and prep for glazing

Day 2 – Glazing & Firing:

  • Morning: Glazing demonstration and hands-on glazing

  • Midday: Kiln loading and firing begins (controlled ramp and hold schedule)

  • Afternoon: Discussion of firing curves, troubleshooting, and Q&A

  • Kiln will continue overnight, and results will be shared after cooldown

Additional Info:

  • If you’re traveling from out of town, I can suggest local affordable lodging

  • Cone 6 clay available at $1/lb if needed (limited—just for workshop use)

  • All bookings are final due to limited space

If you can't make this one but want to hear about future workshops, feel free to join my email list.
Looking forward to exploring crystals and glaze science with you!
